The Friederikenstift hospital, founded in 1840, has the following specialist medical departments and facilities at its two sites in Hanover:

The site at Humboldtstraße 5:

  • general, visceral and vascular surgery
  • anaesthesiology and intensive care
  • computerised tomography (CT)
  • gynaecology and obstetrics
  • catheter angiography and PTA
  • magnetic resonance tomography (MRT)
  • medical clinic (internal medicine with diabetes advisory service)
  • ear, nose and throat
  • neurosurgery
  • neurology with stroke unit
  • nuclear medicine
  • palliative medicine
  • physiotherapy
  • radiology
  • radiation therapy
  • casualty surgery and plastic surgery with trauma centre
  • urology with cystoscopy and ESWL (extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy/stone pulveriser)
  • incontinence centre
  • stoma and parenteral alimentation centre
  • pharmacy
  • laboratory

The site at Marienstraße 37:

  • plastic surgery and hand surgery
  • casualty surgery and plastic surgery
  • outpatient operations

In addition, the Ev. Diakoniewerk Friederikenstift has a special ward for patients seriously injured in accidents, in Bad Münder (Hachmühlen), under the auspices of a professional association.

The interdisciplinary spine centre of the diaconal hospitals was founded together with the Annastift e. V. and the Henriettenstiftung in Hanover.

Medical care

A high standard of medical care provided by the Friederikenstift is guaranteed by:

  • the many departments, directed by medical specialists, which closely collaborate in an interdisciplinary manner
  • focussing especially on casualty medicine
  • its status as a university teaching hospital of the MHH (Hanover University Medical School)
  • training and further training of doctors
  • the most modern medical equipment

Nursing care

A high standard of nursing care provided by the Friederikenstift is guaranteed by:

  • specialist and diaconal training in our own training facilities 
  • regular further training and mentor programmes carried out internally
  • our own further training facilities
  • continuous further development and advancement in nursing based on Christian principles
  • orientation to modern nursing concepts and the results of research in nursing methods
  • training of OPTAs (operation technical assistants)
  • training and application of kinaesthetics   

In addition to the hospital, the following facilities belong to the Friederikenstift:

  • the Rehabilitation Centre for outpatient rehabilitation
  • the Ambulant Nursing Service which provides nursing care at home
  • the Palliative Unit and the Palliative Service which provide care and support to the most seriously ill patients and their relatives
  • the Sisterhood which is a modern, evangelical community of more than 500 women
  • the Uhlhorn Hospice  which has eight beds for patients who are in the last phase of life and who require intensive care and attention
  • the Service Company (a limited company) which is our own subsidiary of the Friederikenstift
  • the Circle of Friends is a supporting association promoting humanitarianism and closeness
  • the Sisterhood Foundation promotes the sisterhood work of the “Friederikens“ and other sisterhoods, at home and abroad
  • the "Babykörbchen" (a safe net for unwanted babies) is part of the Mirjam network which cares for families in need
